Birthday Wishes

Happy Friday!!

This week’s theme for the LLLC team is Birthday and I think this little penguin is just perfect!

I’ve kept this pretty simple to let the penguin really take the spotlight. I inked a stencil from the Snowy Hills Layering stencils to create a confetti background and I love how the Three Presents Die from last November’s Holiday release can be used for birthday as well just by using bright, playful colors.

I created a large present for the penguin to stand on using a Double Stitched Square die and a Stitched Nested Circle die for the polka dots. I die-cut one of the present dies a few times to add ribbon to the large present and added a large bow from the Wreath With Bow die.

I heat embossed all of the ribbons and bows with clear embossing powder for a little shine.

Shore do love you!

Happy Friday!!
We’ve got a blue and gold theme this week at La-La Land Crafts and I immediately thought of Sitting Mermaid Marci. She’s one of my favorite Marci stamps and gave me an opportunity to play with some fun ocean/nautical dies and stamps too!

For the background, I inked from the top with Tumbled Glass, Broken China and Peacock Feathers distress inks. I die-cut a frame, inked it with Tumbled Glass, stamped the anchors with Versamark ink and then heat embossed with gold embossing powder.

I stamped, colored and fussy cut out the images and glued them to the card front .Then, I colored the shells, anchor and net die-cuts with Copics and added them along the bottom. To finish it off, I stamped the sentiment on a small frame die-cut and inked it with Antique Linen distress ink.

Take Time For You

Happy Friday! This week’s theme at La-La Land Crafts is Clean and Simple. I’ve always admired the work of those whose primary style is CAS as it can be quite the challenge to get that great balance and know when to say when. I tend to always want to add more!

For my card today, I’ve used the adorable ducky from the Relax & Unwind stamp set and went for a spa-like feel with lots of bubbles. I love a pink, lime green and teal color scheme.

I inked the background with Twisted Citron, Cracked Pistachio, Evergreen Bough and Peacock Feathers distress inks and then splashed a little water for the bubbles. I inked another piece of white cardstock with Cracked Pistachio and die-cut the Sea Bubbles Border die and then trimmed the ends to fit the background panel. I also die-cut a Stitched Nested Circle die from this piece. A heat embossed sentiment and a bit of pink patterned paper from the Christmas Hodgepodge Paper Pack finished it off.

Easy Peasy!

Tropical Inspiration for the New Year

Happy Friday!! Sharing a card today that just makes me happy!

I’m still very much in a tropical state of mind, so I thought this would be a fun inspirational card to kick off the New Year! The sentiment that I used made me think of New Year’s resolutions and goals. While I’m not really one to  make resolutions, I do like to set some small attainable goals for the the new year.

One of my main goals this year is to relax and take time for my creative pursuits. Coloring, painting and crafting are my passions and too often I put them on the back burner. I’m hoping to strike a better life balance this year and give my passions more priority.

Here are the products that I’ve used on this card:

Tiki Hut Island Die
Hibiscus Die
Pierced Scalloped Ovals Die
Double Stitched Hills Border Die
Summer Dress Molli Rubber Stamp

18 Days of Christmas with La-La Land Crafts-Slimline Gift Box

Hi everyone! Today I’m sharing a slimline gift box for Day 16 of La-La Land Crafts 18 Days of Christmas. This is a 4″ x 10″ (2″ deep) gift box featuring some fun Santa scenes! It seems I’m always in search of a gift box in this size for gifts like ties, socks, gloves, etc., so this gave me the perfect opportunity to create one!

First some photos of the gift box and then I’ve got a tutorial below of the basic construction of the box.

The box lid closes with a magnetic flap on the right side.

I couldn’t resist creating a few more fun scenes inside!

You can also stand it upright for a decor piece.

Products Used: Dear Santa Clear Stamp Set, A Caroling We Go Clear Stamp Set, Christmas Postcard Stamp Set, Fireplace Die, Chimney Die, Wreath With Bow Die, Staircase Die, Tall Door Die, Three Presents Die, Vintage Window Die, Stitched Trees Die, Christmas Hodgepodge Paper Pack, Blue Christmas Paper Pack, Little Merry Christmas Paper Pack, Fancy Bracket Die, Double Stitched Ovals Die, Pierced Scalloped Ovals Die, Stitched Nested Circles Die

Coloring Details: Copic Markers

Santas:
skin–E000,E00,E11,E13
beard–N0,N1,N2
suit/hat–B32,R24,R27,R29,N0,N1
belt–N4,N5,N7,YR21,YR23,YR24
boots–N4,N6,N8
shirt–E35,E37,E55,N5
lantern–YR21,E87,E89,N4,N5,N7
presents–BG10,BG11,BG32,G00,G02,G12
sack–E35,E37,E55
recliner–E35,E37,E55
coffee mug–BG72,BG75,BG78

Here are the steps for the basic construction of the gift box:

Step 1: Cut a piece of lightweight chipboard 8″ x 10″. Score on the 8″ side at 2″ and 6″.

Step 2: Cut 2 pieces of lightweight chipboard 4″ x 8″. Score on the 4″ side down the middle of each piece at 2″. Score on the 8″ side of each piece at 2″ and 6″.

Step 3: Cut away 2 corners of each piece along the score lines as shown below.

Step 4: Fold the pieces on the score lines. Apply Scor-Tape or a similar strong tape adhesive to the side flaps of each piece as shown below.

Step 5:Remove the tape liners from the long flap of each piece. Adhere the 8″ x 10″ chipboard piece to the long flap of each piece, lining up the score lines of the 8″ x 10″ chipboard with the edges of the long flaps.

Step 6: Remove the tape liners from the 4 small flaps. Turn the combined chipboard pieces over. Fold on all score lines and adhere the 4 small flaps to the inside to form the box.

Step 7: Cut a piece of lightweight chipboard 8″ x 10 1/4″. Score on the 8″ side at 2″ and 6 1/8″.

Step 8: Tape the largest Fancy Bracket Die cutting edge down centered along the edge of the 10 1/4″ side closest to the 6 1/8″ score line.

Step 9:Die-cut the chipboard piece. Using a pencil and ruler, draw a straight line from the ends of the die-cut portion to the ends of the chipboard. **If you don’t have a large platform die-cutting machine, fold the 2″ section under and die-cut the piece.

Step 10: Cut along the drawn lines with scissors and round the corners.

Step 11: Turn the chipboard piece over and apply Scor-tape or similar strong tape adhesive to the 2″ section.

Step 12: Remove the tape liners and adhere the 2″ section to the left side of the box.**The flap is slightly longer than the box to prevent gapping. Overlap the box on each end by 1/8″.

Using strong tape adhesive, adhere 2 magnets to the flap as shown.

Step 13: Cut patterned papers to fit the flap and glue them to the flap. Let 2 opposing magnets attach to the magnets underneath. Apply a strong tape adhesive to the magnets.

Step 14: Close the flap and press to adhere the magnets on the right side of the box. Cut patterned papers and glue to the side of the box to cover the magnets. Decorate as desired.

Hope you’ll give this a try and be sure to check out the rest of the design team projects for the 18 Days of Christmas on the La-La Land Crafts blog! Lots of fun inspiration and tutorials!

Thanks for stopping by and see you again soon!

Java Nice Day!

Hi there! I’ve got a simple card to share today using a cute little sloth stamp from LaLaLandCrafts. This is from the Take it Sloth set and I’ve used a sentiment from the LaLaLandCrafts Java Nice Day set. I love how these 2 stamp sets work so well together.

I just recently purchased the Tim Holtz “Splat” dies and I immediately thought of this stamp and making it look like a coffee (sloffee?) spill. I die-cut one of the larger splat dies from white cardstock and inked it with Distress Inks in Vintage Photo, Walnut Stain and Frayed Burlap. To make it look like a liquid spill, I wet a paintbrush and randomly wet the ink, let areas dry and then re-wet other areas.

For a little interest on the background, I airbrushed a Hero Arts Swirl stencil using Copic NO and N1.

I colored the sloth image with Copics and added some colored pencil details.

To finish, I heat embossed the sentiment. Super simple!

Hope you enjoyed and I’ll be back tomorrow sharing a new Gerda Steiner release!

Hang Loose

Summer is my favorite time of year to make cards. I love all of the sea life, beach and vacation themed stamp releases and this “Stay Cool” stamp set is just adorable.

I started this card by using a MFT stitched rectangle Stax die-namic in the 4″ x 5 1/4″ size and die-cutting a piece of Canson Mi-Teintes watercolor paper. I stamped the bear with surfboard image from the latest La-La Land Crafts release in MFT Insulation Pink hybrid ink and then masked the image. I wanted to bring in just a bit more bright color on this card, so I stamped a few flower images to either side of the bear. (The hibiscus stamp is from an old WaltzingMouse stamp set in my stash).

I applied masking fluid to the images using a Molotow Grafx pen to protect those from the watercolor painting to come.

I die-cut a large circle and centered it towards the top of the paper making sure the stamped images would overlap the circle. This is easier done by cutting the circle from a clear vellum or acetate so you can see the images beneath. I then applied masking fluid with the pen around the outside edge of the circle about 1/2″ wide.

Once the masking fluid was completely dry, I taped the new La-La Land Crafts Water Ripples stencil across the top of the circle and watercolored with Distress Inks in Peacock Feathers and Salty Ocean. You have to go easy with the water to avoid a lot of running under the stencil.

I colored the images with Prismacolors and stamped a sentiment from the set to finish it off.

Hope you enjoyed! I’m off on vacation for a week, so I may not have any cards to share for a bit, but I hope you check back.

Thanks for stopping by!
