Rainy Day Hippo

March 26, 2019 in Clearly Besotted - No Comments

Hi there! Sharing a card today that I’ve entered in this week’s SimonSaysStamp Wednesday challenge. The theme for this week was “cute” and Clearly Besotted stamps were the focus, but not required. Funny enough, of all the Clearly Besotted cuteness that I own, I chose the Rainy Day Hippos to work with not realizing that last week’s challenge theme was “weather”. Lol. I still think this little guy qualifies as cute, so I entered it anyway.

I’m really happy with the way the sky turned out on this. I used a combination of Distress Inks and Copic airbrushing. I started out by stamping the hippo in MFT Cement Gray and masking the image.

I then used a radiating rays stencil from MFT in the top left corner and airbrushed with a little bit of N1, Y21 and Y32. Starting from the bottom of the panel, I inked with Weathered Wood Distress ink about 2/3 of the way up and then blended with Hickory Smoke Distress ink towards the top leaving some white space for the sun to peek out.

Next I used the MFT mini clouds stencil and airbrushed the clouds with N1 and N2. For the sun, I punched a circle from cardstock and used that cardstock piece as a stencil/mask and inked a portion of the circle with Scattered Straw Distress ink and a little bit of Wild Honey.

I colored the hippo with Copics, stamped a few raindrops and then added colored pencil details. You can’t see it in the photos, but I added a touch of Glossy Accents to the raindrops for a little shine.

To finish it off, I stamped the sentiment in Versamark and heat embossed with Wow! detail white embossing powder.

Hope you’re having a great start to the week and thanks for stopping by!
